Sneak Peek into a Motivated Team Meeting

by PastorDre on Sep.17, 2009, under Open Mic

Hey all,

How ya feelin?

I am at home thinking about the meeting we had with our team tonight and what a great atmosphere.

I was able to share my heart and goals for our team.

I thought it would be cool to give you a seat at that meeting, by sharing my personal notes of that meeting with you.

I hope you enjoy and that you are blessed – If you have any questions please email me: pastordre@motivatedsandiego.org

Motivated Meeting

Devotion: Habakkuk 2:2-4

How to stay focused

How many know that any team that wants to be effective, needs to know how to keep their focus.

On ‘The Apprentice’, the reality TV show conducted by Donald Trump in the US, there was an episode where the team had to create a graffiti billboard for Sony’s Play Station 2. One team created a mural that wove in the game elements while the other team created a streetscape mural that echoed the lifestyle of the neighbourhood where the billboard was situated. The team that won was naturally the team that created the mural that would sell the company’s product. The task was to sell the game. The other team lost sight of the business objectives, and the team leader was ‘fired’ from the show!

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
- Henry Ford

Not only that, but how many know if you want to be a good team player that’s effective, you have to know how to keep your focus.

“Teamwork divides the task and double the success.”
- Author unknown

Today I would like to share some things that can help you and I keep focus in whatever we set out to do.

Bits & Pieces, September 19, 1991, p. 18
A weakness of all human beings, ” Henry Ford said, “is trying to do too many things at once. That scatters effort and destroys direction. It makes for haste, and haste makes waste. So we do things all the wrong ways possible before we come to the right one. Then we think it is the best way because it works, and it was the only way left that we could see. Every now and then I wake up in the morning headed toward that finality, with a dozen things I want to do. I know I can’t do them all at once.” When asked what he did about that, Ford replied, “I go out and trot around the house. While I’m running off the excess energy that wants to do too much, my mind clears and I see what can be done and should be done first.”

3 ways that you and I can stay focused

1 – Know what you want to accomplish and when you would like to accomplish it.There is a scripture in Habakkuk 2:2-3
It is good to set goals and even write them down of what you and I would like to accomplish

Hab 2:2 ¶ And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make [it] plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Often it is a good idea to write down on a piece of paper what you and I would like to accomplish.

Then once we accomplish it we can check it off and move on to the next one.

There are times when I am in prayer and I will get an idea. So I like to keep a pen and pad by me so I can stop write down the idea and then get back into prayer.

How many times have we forgot to do something that we haven’t written down. I wonder how many ideas God has given us that we haven’t written down?

This also can be helpful when you are leading a team. Especially a team is going to be effective.

See it is easy to lead yourself, because you don’t have to plan and you can tell yourself when to do it, but when you are leading a team it takes a lot of planning. This also goes for leading leaders. See it is easier to lead follower than it is to lead leaders. Followers don’t have much responsibility and can come and go when you we say, but to lead leaders is different, becasue they have a schedule and they have a responsibility of planning to lead others. If you want to be an effective team.

Example:
If you enter into a game for instance without a coach, without a team captain and of course with no leadership, how good will that game go? Preparation and Practice the games go easier because you all know what the plan is.

Establish a goal write it down and go from there. That is why I am real big on minutes for meetings.

2: Start taking steps to figure out ways to accomplish that goal.

When you and I have written down our goals, the next best thing is to try and figure out ways and ideas on how to accomplish those goals.

We shouldn’t try and accomplish the goal all at once, it may take some time.

Though it linger wait for it, it will certainly come and not delay.

Hab 2:3 For the vision [is] yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry

Example:
When it comes to marathon running, preparation mentally is the biggest key. One of the most imporant things that keeps runners motivated is to believe in yourself and your abilities.

They say you need to have confidence. Know that you will do good no matter what the circumstance.

Someone was once said about a running marathon to “Treat a race like eating a pie. You’d never eat a pie by just shoving the entire thing into your face and hoping you’ll get a good fill, right?

You need to break it into pieces, and even then you still need to use a fork to break those pieces into something that will fit in your mouth.

By the time it’s broken down, it’s little tiny pieces that will fill you up. One fork full of pie is like one step on the course. Step by step, you’re making it to the finish line.” The most important thing I’ve been told when it comes to a goal is this: “When you run a half marathon just remember this…you’re not running 13 miles. You’re running one mile, 13 times.” Break things down, so it’s “easier to swallow”.

3 – Third and most important step: It is important to operate where your passion is at.

The last thing that I would like to share that helps you and I to stay focused is to have a passion for what we do.

Remember motivation comes from within. When you and I have a passion for hat we do, we shouldn’t need to be reminded to stay focused because it burns within us.

Motivation comes from within.

I have a question for us today. Our we in our power spot? See when you and I are in our power spot we just naturally eat, sleep, and drink what we are doing for God. If we are not then it can become a job where we clock in and clock out

I encourage you today find your power spot and what you love to do and that will automatically put a passion in you that no one else can.

Remember we are a team and we need each other.

No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it.”
- H.E. Luccock

Keys to unlocking our potential

by PastorDre on Sep.01, 2009, under Open Mic

Hey All,

How ya feelin?

It’s Pastor Dre and I just wanted to give out some keys that you and I can use to help unlock our potential.

1) Prepare – know, study, and research the topic we would like to go to anther level in.

2) Practice – Take time to practice whatever it maybe that we would like to go to another level in. Singing, Preaching, Evangelizing, Rapping, or Acting. Remember the old saying “practice makes perfect.”

3) Poise- It is important that you and I have a balance in whatever we do. We should keep our balance in our ministry life along with our spiritual life.

4) Position Yourself – Put yourself under someone who is good at what you and I want to get better at. Why does every athlete have a coach, because they want to get better at what they do. Remember Karate Kid – Daniel san needed a coach Miyagi to bring the best out of him so wax on – wax off – sand the floor -and paint the fence. Even when we don’t understand why the coach is telling us this.

5) Perseverance – Without perseverance we will not make it very far, because there will be times of discouragement, setbacks, and disappointments in going to new levels and trying new things. It is in these time that you and I need to have perseverance and keep our eyes on the prize.

Our goal should be to be able to say what Paul said “I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith:”

Well until next time – Let me hear you say….

Is there a lad in the building

by PastorDre on Aug.10, 2009, under Open Mic

Hey all,

How ya feelin?

It’s Pastor Dre and I just walked in the door from our Sunday Night Service, where I had the privilege of speaking a message entitled “Is there a lad in the building”

The message is based out of John 6:5-13

There was a group of people who were hungry and Jesus turned to Philip and asked him where shall we buy bread for this people to eat?
Then Andrew spotted a lad in the crowd with 5 loaves and 2 fish and that is all that Jesus needed to meet the need.Jesus fed over 5 thousand people with only 5 loaves and 2 fish.

In the natural it was impossible, but in the supernatural there was enough to feed everyone and have left overs. All Jesus needed was someone who was willing to give of what they had and put it in the Masters hands.

See what you and I have might not seem like much, but if we are willing to put it in the Masters hands He can take it multiply it and use it to feed a world that is hungry for hope.

What is it that you have today that needs to be put in the Masters hands?

I encourage you - eventhough it might not seem like much- take what you have, put it in the Masters hands, watch how He will multiply it and use it to bring good news to a hurting world.

What vision can do for us

by PastorDre on Jul.21, 2009, under Open Mic

Hey all,

How ya feelin,

I am just sitting here thinking about what having a vision can do for our lives.

1) It gives us direction – if we don’t know where we want to go then we will have a hard time getting there. A gps is no good if you don’t put in a destination. The Holy Ghost wants to guide our lives, but we must know where we want to go.

2) It gives our lives meaning – Living life with no vision is like playing basketball with no hoop. It has no purpose or meaning. The thing that makes basketball purposeful is the little hoop at both ends of the court – literally they have something to shoot for.(lol)

3. Vision gives our lives passion – If you and I have no vision for our lives then we are probably not living our lives with excitement. Once again the only thing that makes basketball exciting and allows you and I to watch it for 2 hours straight, get excited, and yell. Is when our team makes a goal. So it is with our lives when you and I have a vision and goal for our life it makes our lives exciting and gives you and I a reason to wake up in the morning.

Well just wanted to share a little from my heart.

Until next time – Let me hear you say….

Motivated to step out – Part 2

by PastorDre on Jul.07, 2009, under Open Mic

Hey all – How ya feelin?

I just wanted to add the second part of my blog off being Motivated to step out.

Peter said Lord if it is you tell me to come. Jesus said come and Peter got down out off the boat and walked on the water. Remember it was the waves(which are made out of water) that was buffeting the boat.

The thing that took Peter from being buffeted by the waves to walking on the waves was the Word that Jesus spoke.

See if you and I are going to get victory and walk on top of our situations then we need to be willing to take God at His word.

It is the Word of God that takes you and I from the Natural to the SUPER-Natural, from our ability to His ability, from I can’t to I can, and from fear to faith.

So I just want to encourage you today, whatever you maybe facing or dealing with take God at His word and He will give you and I victory over the situation.

Until next time

Let me hear you say….

Motivated to Step Out – Part 1

by PastorDre on Jun.26, 2009, under Open Mic

Hey all,

How ya feelin?

Just wanted to take some time to write and say what a great time we had last night at Motivated.

It was good to see more new faces in the place and the talent on the open mic was off the hook.We also had some young adults from our Vista Church in the house and they represented on the open mic.

I shared my heart with those in attendance about stepping out. I used the scripture in Matthew 14:22 How Jesus made His disciples get in the boat, even though He knew there was a storm coming. The King James version says that Jesus constrained His disciples to get in the boat. That sounds to me like He didn’t ask them to get in the boat, but He told them to get in the boat.

So even in their obedience to God they found themselves in a storm. The disciples found themselves being buffeted by the waves. You know sometimes when you and I are in the perfect will of God, we may still face a storm here and there.

Why would Jesus tell His disciples to get in the boat, if He knew there was a storm coming? I believe it’s because He wanted to teach them a valuable lesson on faith.

See sometimes God will allow situations and circumstances to come our way to grow us and I believe this was a lesson on faith.

OK  the disciples in the boat – it is being hit by waves(which are made of water) – and here comes Jesus walking on the water telling the disciples not to be afraid. Now the same thing that was causing the disciples to be buffeted, was the same thing that Jesus came to them walking on top off.

So that tells me that no matter what may come our way or what we may be buffeted by today, Jesus is on top off it and in control.  He is saying “Take Courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Why because He has everything under control.

Part 2 Coming Soon – We will discuss how Peter said Lord if it’s you tell me come – tell me to step out.

Open Mic Night

by PastorDre on Jun.19, 2009, under Open Mic

Hey all,

How ya feelin?

Wow what a great time we had tonight at motivated. The open mic was off the charts.

It was good to see new talent stepping up to the mic. If I am not mistaken there was at least 3 new people on the open mic tonight.  Which ranged from spoken word, an acapella song, and a rap.

Once again it was good to see new faces in the place and I really feel challenged to take our follow up to another level. I believe that is what’s going to help us break the 75 barrier.

It is late and before I go – I just want to say to the Motivated team you guys are the bomb.

Let me hear you say….
